Do you provide doula services? How is a midwife different from a doula?
Midwives are different from doulas in many ways, and in many ways, what we do wi overlap. The biggest differences is that doulas do not provide medical care, midwives do. Although I have a doula background, and value doulas very much, I no longer provide these services by themself. Of course, my many years as a doula have influenced how I practice and contribute greatly to my skillset. I encourage you to explore whether or not you would benefit from having a doula, and always encourage my first-time birthers, to have one. You can learn more about doulas here, and can search for doulas here.
How much do you charge?
The range for midwifery care in this area is between $5,500 and $8,500. Midwives will set their fee and include various services according to what works for them. My fee is in this range and incudes all of your labs and birthing material needed. Please reach out to schedule a virtual consultation for more info! No one should be turned away for lack of finances.
Do you accept insurance?
The short answer to this question is no. I am not set up to bill insurance just yet, but please check back in the future. Although there are many sustainable ways to finance your midwifery care such as United Medical Credit, and Medical share plans such as Medi-share. I’ve also found this great post on creative ways to pay for your midwife’s services.
Do you have an office?
I am working out of an office in Claremont, but often will arrange to do an in home visit depending on schedule. The birth team meeting, arranged between 35-37 weeks, is done in home as well as the 24-48 hr postpartum visit. Please invite your partner, your friends and loved ones, especially your little ones :), to join us if you so choose! Midwifery care is family centered and sacred in all rights. By choosing midwifery model of care, we are normalizing and exposing a new generation of birthers and birth partners to the joy and warmth of birth.
What happens if I need to transfer to the hospital?
If the need to transfer arises, for any reason, I will call ahead and give report to the intercepting OB or charge nurse whenever possible. I will meet you at the hospital and advocate for your needs. Depending on the situation, and the needs of my other clients, I may stay throughout birth.
